Comets in history

We know that people have been observing the night sky for many thousands of years . Comets  have been recorded in historical documents, frequently being considered as bad omens.

In 1066 King Harold was defeated by William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings. The Bayeux Tapestry documents events on the battle and features Haley’s comet . A bad omen for King Harold!
