These two samples are examples of very ancient primitive meteorites known as chondrites. They have essentially remained unchanged since the formation of our solar system and are approximately 4,467 million years old. Chondrites are so called because they contain mm-sized spherical objects known as chondrules. These are thought to have formed as molten free-floating spheres.
