Fell 13th December 1795

Location – Wold Newton, Yorkshire, England

Total known weight – 25kg

Circumstances – Wold Cottage was a property owned by Major Edward Topham. One of his workers, John Shipley, was in a field near the house when, after hearing sounds of thunder in the air, an object hurtled by him and hit the ground only 30 yards from where he stood. When John Shipley located the sample, it was buried 18 inches deep. He described it as having a black crust and smelling of sulphur.
