Location – Ashdon, Essex, England

Total known weight – 1.3kg

Circumstances – The Ashdon meteorite fell in a cornfield and was witnessed by a farmer who heard a hissing sound in the air. It made an impact pit almost 2 feet deep and was passed to the police and subsequently onto a local vicar. It was later donated to the British Museum (Natural History). 3 months after the fall G T Prior, Keeper of Minerals at the museum visited the site and found a fragment of the stone that had chipped off on impact.
